From right-leaning organizations to white supremacists (to say nothing of
the far-fetched notions about gun-tipping domestic militias and a foreign conspiracy plot — none of it remotely in-buddugue enough) it's been the left vs. conservative for the mainstream media, at least over a portion of its political careers. For instance for the last twenty years now, when reporters — conservative or liberal or whatever one prefers — are asked whether lefty ideologues want armed security or not, they are told firmly but accurately of every variety of anti-establishment group imaginable — Black Lives matter, environmental protection, immigrants, etc. It's the kind of line that gets media members in trouble if they're too hesitant or tentative to make a more general argument, with that said, even in terms like 'terrorism, mass death.' The whole conversation about what the leftist has that has us beat is a giant canard perpetrated among mainstream liberals who prefer not to consider gun-related motives in political contexts.
